Not another Thai restaurant.

Maakindii started with a pretty simple thought: why does Thai food in New Zealand always seem to be the same?

Pad Thai. Green curry. Red curry. The classics are great, but growing up eating in Thailand, that wasn't really how we ate.

Some of our favourite meals were the ones shared around a table grilled meats, Som tum, spicy soups, seafood, and dishes made for eating together, usually with a cold drink in hand.

Back in our university days, we also loved going out, having drinks and spending the night with friends. We saw Korean restaurants creating places where you could eat, drink, hang out and stay late, and kept wondering:

Why isn't there a Thai place like that?

So we decided to create one.

Maakindii is our version of the Thai food and atmosphere we actually love bold flavours, grilled food, spicy salads, comforting soups, drinks, music and a table full of friends.

No need to make Thai food something it's not.

Just the food Thai people love to eat, served the way we love to enjoy it.

I think this line in particular could become a really strong part of the

Maakindii brand:

It communicates what makes you different without putting down other Thai restaurants, and it fits the younger, social, Bangkok-nightlife direction of the website very well.
